Dear Associates,
In the time since the first tsunami disaster relief efforts were initiated,
great strides have been made to meet the basic needs of those impacted.
However, estimates of the long-term negative effects of this tragedy, as
well as the ongoing need for assistance to the region, continue to grow.
The overall response from the world community has been inspiring, as has
the generous response of our team members, who gave from the heart.
We are proud to inform you that nearly US$ 70,000 has been contributed
to various relief organizations by hundreds of associates around
the world.
Over US $60,000 of that total came from our associates outside the
United States, and – as previously communicated – the Company
Foundation is double matching those international contributions in the
form of a US $125,000 grant to UNICEF. This donation is in addition to
the Foundation's original grant of $250,000 made to the American Red
Cross in January and distributed to victims of the tsunami in partnership
with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
UNICEF currently has a 3-year commitment to focus on the restoration
of schools, health centers and water systems in the tsunami-ravaged
geographies, with a particular focus on programs to protect and support
children affected by the disaster. The generosity of our team will
assist in these important efforts.
Thank you to all whose personal contributions will make a significant
difference in the lives of children and families in South Asia and East
Africa for years to come.
