You do not get a lot of high technology like you might be used to in England but you do get a lot of other things.
Romania has a lot of traditions which are unique in the world.
Some of the people in the country are working with older tools which is always fun to see for people from other countries.
The girls are a little bit more easy than in England. If you do get involved with somebody theyre less likely to S**ew you over and go sleep with somebody else(not that some don't do it).
Also they are less likely to be mad if you get them flowers and candy for their birthday instead of a new car or diamonds(which is kind of a standard in both uk and us).

There are lots of nice things in Romania ...
I won't say about the girls , i'll let the boys talk about this *p
Really nice sight seeings : the monutains are great , the seaside as well ; in Romania i saw the best sunsets and sunrises in the world !
We have really good food :o but , of course , it depends on everybody's taste ... The wine is good as well .
The people are nice , welcoming and we do have as well a really well develloped sense of humour .
( Talking about the sense of humour .. I saw an advertisment about tea ; it was showing some brits eating a jelly thing , it wasn't looking too well , or a kid , going to school and it was raining , it was a really bad weather . And a guy asks : how can english people resist ? They drink X tea . It was great :D )
The romanian museums are nice , you can see lots of old buildings , you can learn a little bit about Romania's history , and as well , you can find out that Dracula is a myth that is talking about Vlad the Impaler .. and there is nothing to be scared about ;-)
I don't know for now what else you could see in Romania ... There will be others , i bet , to let you know ;-)

OK , Dornea .. Let's say that what you said wasn't that great ... I mean about the girls , at least ... How do you know how girls are ? Anyway .. this things can happen in any country after all , but you could have said better things about them . I know bad things as well , worse than what you said , but why saying the bad things first ? There are some stuff that are not obvious , some things that you might not want to know , or that you might not believe ... You could have kept those things for some other time

You know how girls are in Romania because I really hope to good you are one of them :o and not something in between(relax that was only a joke).
In every country girls have bad things and good things. In Romania compared to most places I would say theyre mostly good.
We got a lot of interesting places to visit but you got to learn to appreciate them and open up to them.
If you come into Romania sightseeing bewarn though that even if you find many people understanding english you will be scammed till your last pound by people who you meet.
Be also very aware of the fact that public transportation is not that good and also you should consider carrying cash as Romania is mostly cash based unlike your friendly neighborhood shop who takes credit/debit cards.
In the mountains bring adequate gear as you will be travelling solo and there isnt in most places a very good system for mountain rescue.
Ask away any questions you might have.

man, sometimes I actually enjoy living next to the Danube. like during winter when it's almost completely covered in ice and snow and you can see the huge chunks of ice moving towards the port. or during summer when you're completely plastered and go for a quick midnight swim with your mates. those are the best. you should go see it. everyone should.

but 'nuff waffling on about the Danube. the point is.... err. whatever.

I know what you mean... I lived there...where you are now. And I grew up there, next to the Danube. I love the Danube. I love Tulcea with its hills and streets up and down. And the Monument. I miss it so much... And the cliff, mostlly in the summer, when all the people take a walk in the Sunday evening, and the ships, swining slowly next to the bank.... And my people... and my memories ... I wish to be there and then so much....

I can see that this has became a place for country promoting.Ther`s no really good reason to live here. And about coming here well,it`s not really ther girls(maybe they are sleazier than others)but maybe the views, the landscape.,and a railway network far more efficient and safer than the English one.

Sightseeing...

Mesajde Aurolacul » Lun Ian 19, 2004 1:34 pm

Yes, there are a lot of interesting historical buildings as well as travel spots in Romania. The country has such a high potential touristically, but the money isn't there to develop most of it. NOw efforts are being made to introduce new hotels to accomodate western tourists, and some that I have been to are very good, with polite employees.

Some good sights to see are the Bran castle, The famoous Moldavian moasteries in the Suceava county. The seaside resorts of Costinesti, Mangalia, Constanta, Mamaia. You can always go for some mountain trekking in the Carpathians or around Brasov. We have beautiful mountains. In winter, Sinaia is popular with foreign tourists, and also in the summer, the Danube delta is a pretty good place to go, but watch out for the huge mosquitoes and take some insect repellant.

phew! so much information. I hardly know where to begin to answer so much info.!!

I guess that i knew a little more than I realised about Romania. Vlad the Impaler I knew of, but didn't realise he was from there. Also of course Dracula (or Nosferatu ??).

I have some Romany friends in UK and one of them bought a wagon from Romania as he says they know about the science of the horse there. It has never been forgotten. That is good for a horsetraveller, as he is.

I am impressed by what you say about the gills there Dornea. Loyalty is getting less likely in UK as time goes by, and that is a sad state of affairs for a culture to be in. I have an idea that I could easily fall for a Romanian woman :).

The mountains and agriculture, and the use of old tools is great too. There is a systematic destruction of real skills in England going on. Especially in the old building trades. Stone work is alive, as we have a lot of old buildings of stone, but the care of them is going downhill. Too much using the newer methods (cheaper short term) is killing them.

I am more determined now to get there one day. Maybe not tihs year, but soon enough, before it changes.

The warnings about Romanians trying to get money from me is no real threat - though I was once told that the Romanian police make the Russian mafia look like Sunday School teachers. :s. that was long ago, and I think there have been a few changes since. (I hope so)

I have travelled in North Africa on 6 occasions and have found that people only want to filter your mony if you have nothing else to offer in the way of cultural exchange. I am confident that I can bring a little to Romania which is not counted in bank notes or coins.

and soccer still sux! :P

well tourism is ok for those who can deal with the plastic world of fantasy. I prefer the reality of the place and people. And from here, and my other experience so far - I have a lot of good stuff to look forward to in Romania.

If I go there and I have a shitty time - it's simple - I come back home, I sit a while then I get on here and curse you all soundly(h)

And I will still have a small piece of Romania with me, which I am sure will never fade. . . . but ThAT is for me to know about ....

Because I live in Constanta, I have seen a lot of tourists become overwhelmed by the diverses and exciting new eastern culture. This is not because whey are ignorant and stupid, but is instead because... well, no, actually, it is because we're fairly ignorant and stupid. When entering Romanian territory, all tourists instantly lose all sense of basic mathematics. If a tourist notices that something costs 158 000 lei, their brain will instantly become hopelessly lost in a daze of converting lei to dollars or euro and determining what bizarre combination of paper bills and random coins it would take to cover that price. For example, if one is getting on a bus which costs 5000 lei to ride, expect to wait at least 10 minutes to figure out how to combine the two 100 000 and one 10 000 lei to provide the fare. By that time, the bus will have passed his stop and he'll be forced to get off in an area of town where the last thing from aboard to enter, was in 1982 and consists in a Spiderman chewing gum....

Romanian trditional music interests me, mainly because I have so little experiance with it. I guess if I had some titles, I couod do a search and download some ........ hint ;=

Nightwish - soccer sucks came after soccer got all too commercial.
With brands like Beckham getting £80 k per week plus adverts money - and kids getting payed about £1-20 per day to make things for the fan trade in sweatshops. Then the price of all the tat gettnig hiked up to silly money for sale to the fams back here. That sux. It also bugs me that the top clubs change kit styles so often that kids can't keep up with it and it creates pressure on them. Used to be a time when a scarf to keep out the wind, and wave if your club scored was all enough. Now it is just another commercial venture.

I do enjoy the world cup though. Non payed, and top class players. Some of them even winning legally!

I drank beer for 12 hours straight after England beat Argentina last time in the World cup. About too I thought.

And finally - we won the Rugby World Cup this year so - soccer sux again!

nothing personal to any soccer crazy fans - but it does. It SUX - BIG TIME!

Yes, there are a lot of traditional music cds coming out now in Romania, and a lot of tourists are interested in such performances. If you come in summer, make sure to visit The Folk Festival from Mamaia every August. I haven't been yet, but have seen it on tv many times and it is brilliant.

About the fact that the English are just a bunch of wanckers, I'd like to point out that this bunch of wankers is the one that had the most powerful empire in the entire history of humankind, and that scottish national hero, William Wallace, was defetead by them. So I'd rather give credit to the English.

I live in the U.S.A but I still believe that they are not the strongest nation in the world and they will soon be out of the top 10 nations in the world if their economy implodes in on itself(considering that every american has a debt of $12.000).!
