Dog Fashion Disco

Eu am auzit de oameni astia de la prietenii mei din S.U.A. care asculta Bungle sau Faith No More, si toti aveau numai termeni de lauda despre Dog Fashion Disco. In general erau caracterizati ca si o varianta mai necizelata de la Bungle. Si adevarul e ca in mare asa sunau pe primele albume. Dar am ascultat atent toata discografia DFD, si am ajuns la concluzia ca sunt absolut geniali indiferent de cat de mult aduc a Bungle. Deci seamana, si nu seamana pe Bungle, ar fi mult de discutat pe aceasta tema, si in orice caz nu aceasta e ideea.

Dog Fashion Disco (alaturi de Sleepytime Gorilla Museum despre care o sa deschid candva un thread) se numara printre trupele mele preferate ever, si eu sunt foarte foarte incantat ca i-am descoperit. Primul album ascultat a fost Anarchists of Good Taste (2001) si cand am auzit prima piesa, si intro-ul de la Leper Friend m-am blocat. Un ritm hotarat de tobe, o clapa de-a dreptul bolnava sub care un singur (!!!) riff de chitara iti zgarie urechile, in timp ce bassul e fluent si curgator, iarasi doar cu vreo 2-3 note, pe o singura coarda. Si apoi intra vocea. Todd Smith e printre cei mai buni solisti ce i-am auzit in viata mea. O combinatie de Serj din System Of A Down, Patton si Maynard din Tool.

Dog Fashion Disco sunt foarte greu de incadrat intr-un anume stil muzical, datorita influentelor diverse asupra muzicii lor, adica de la metal si hardcore pana la jazz, lounge si muzica de circ. Si cam asa si suna pe albume piesele, de la Love Songs For A Witch care incepe cu niste riffuri de thrash metal, si continua cu saxofoane si parti de muzica de circ si chiar jazz, sau Pogo The Clown care e jazz toata ziua, cu un bass de zile mari, saxofoane si trompete, voce super melodica si tot tacamul ... sau Vertigo Motel care pe mine unul ma omoara, in special intro-ul de pian, care suna absolut uluitor.

In fine, cele mai faine albume de la DFD ar fi Anarchists Of Good Taste, si Committed to a Bright Future. Ultimul (Adultery) inca nu l-am ascultat chiar asa cum trebuie, asa ca inca nu zic nimic despre el. Combinatia de stiluri suna foarte bine, si spre deosebire de Mr. Bungle care sunt aproape inaccesibili si foarte greu de digerat, Dog Fashion Disco (fara sa fie mai comerciali) sunt ceva mai tolerabili pentru urechile omului.

Eu ii arunc pe DFD direct in oala cu trupele pe care le iubesc din tot sufletul, alaturi de Mr. Bungle, Faith No More, Fantí´mas, Tool, Korn, si restul de 733.993 alte formatii care nu imi mai vin in minte acuma.

am ascultat foarte atent Adultery adica ultimul lor album, si cred ca e deja albumul anului 2006 pentru mine. Nu prea vad ce alt album o sa il depaseasca, daca deja imi pare mult si peste nivelul 10.000 Days de la Tool !!!. Poate doar Peeping Tom, despre care o sa vorbesc mai pe larg in threadul despre Mike Patton.

Adultery e un album conceptual, despre povestea unui om care se autodistruge (si clipul de la Silent Film e realizat in spiritul acesta, cu diavolite goale, bautura, jocuri de noroc, etc), iar muzical vorbind, avem din nou aceleasi elemente minunate de hardcore, metal, jazz si chiar country imbinate perfect.

Deci da, albumul anului, si The Sacrifice Of Miss Rose Covington, Private Eye, Desert Grave, Dead Virgins Don't Sing si Adultery sunt momentan piesele mele preferate de pe el. Cred ca e cel mai bun album Dog Fashion Disco, chiar peste nivelul Commited To A Bright Future.

imi plac Leper Friend, Pogo The Clown, China White, The Christian Dance Song etc.

AOGT e mai "metalish", pe cand Adultery e mai Mr. Bunglesque.
au partea lor de melodii si pasaje enervante (gen muzica de carnaval care e foarte obositoare pentru mine), dar nu poti sa treci cu vederea peste spiritul aventuros si inovator de mare angajament.

printre melodiile lor am descoperit una din cele mai bune piese metal ever:

(pacat ca n-are si ritmuri ultra rapide de pedala dubla, ar fi fost perfecta)

oamenii astia sunt de-a dreptul bolnavi, temele melodiilor sunt mai twisted decat multe formatii grind care urmaresc neaparat sa socheze intr-un mod artificial si fortat, deci cam ar avea de invatat de la Dog Fashion Disco

After much thought and consideration Dog Fashion Disco has decided to call it quits. Their last and final show will be 1-13-07 at Club Sonar located on 407 E Saratoga St. in Baltimore, MD. They want to thank you; all of their dedicated fans for enabling them to make a life and career out of the music of Dog Fashion Disco. This is something that not many people get to enjoy and do. It was a hard decision but after 10 years on CONSTANT dedication and touring it is time to pursue other interests.

Here is a statement from Todd Smith, lead singer of Dog Fashion Disco:

Well after all these years dog fashion disco are calling it quits. Actually I wouldn’t say quit but we are ending the band although dog fashion disco's music for me, will live on forever. I started this band over ten years ago and it was my decision to end it. I always told myself if it stopped being worth the effort I would gracefully bow out and that’s exactly what im doing. Im not going to get into details exactly why everything is ending because it really doesn’t matter. I am so proud of adultery and I think it defines us as musicians and is an awesome way for people to remember us. I think adultery will be discovered by many generations to come and will find its place as a cult record people will listen to and talk about for many years. We will be playing our last show on Jan. 13th 2007 at sonar in Baltimore. I encourage everyone from far and wide to come out for this going away party. We will be playing a super long set and it will be a nice way for us to say our goodbyes face to face. Jeff Siegel will be playing keyboards and it will be a real cool get together for friends and fans. I feel very fortunate to have met everyone who has been a fan of this band for so many years. It’s been so cool meeting everyone around the country and becoming fast friends and knowing they’d be there when we came to town. The experiences ive had I wouldn’t trade for anything. How many people can say they’ve hurled there own shit at 800 juggalo's? or how many people have ever had to go the hospital after visiting a Chinese massage parlor in Rockford Illinois? I even got the opportunity to share the stage with those douche bags in wasp and then after our set pelt them with our veggie tray from our dressing room. I know we are personally responsible for mindless self indulgence now being prohibited to drink booze before there shows. Lets just say when we toured with them we weren’t exactly knitting quilts backstage. I remember a certain gross out contest in Wisconsin where Steve from msi and Ollie from dfd were eating each others vomit by the end of the night. It’s been a lot of fun to say the least. Jasan and Wendy have moved on to create another band phantom communiqué.

I have heard the stuff they are doing in the studio and its fucking killer. I have a feeling those guys will take that band very far. John ensminger and I will be recording a demo to shop in February and that will determine if he and I venture into another band. Well everyone in the band is going to list those they would personally like to thank. I would personally like to thank Derek Brewer, Jeff Cohen, Steve Seabury, Steve Wright and Mike Macaree and Drew Lamonde at Wrightway Studios, Drew mazurek, James Wright, Shane Tuttle, Carlos and Lillian batts, Ron at Rotten Records, Wookubus at the prp, SMN news, Metal Edge, Sam and Paul Schreider, Dee ,Ilyse, Cait , Lauren, Chris Frampton, Jason Popson, Cory Cudney, Matt Rippetoe, Justin, Bonnie and Chase Lapp, Jason at Xactrecords, and Justin Mcconnell.I would also like to send out a special thank you to Mike Smolen.
