and because you mentioned earlier the notion of subtlety, let me ask you a very rough and thouroughly unsubtle question: were you using "eventually" as an irony (or as we simple people call it "ironie katerincoasa") against all of us who use "englezisme" when speaking romanian? (like sunt pistofuita, face sens or scuizuie(shte)-te in autobuz) because if not, i would kindly like to point out that "eventually" does not have the same meaning as the romanian "eventual", but is synonym to "finally".

and once again i'm trying to figure out your reasoning. (yes, you are a very complicated, subtle person

, and without these brutal questions i would be totally lost) So, basically, are you saying that "ever so kindly" is wrong or just out of place? (as in, used at the wrong time, by the wrong person and with the wrong meaning)

because "ever so kindly" does exist, is correct and is (mostly) used in 3 different situations:
1. as a current expression in the "high class, high standards" Brittish society, used when the speaker wants to be extremely courteous and polite (also found in older Brittish literature)
2. because it's a posh expression and the person using it is either a snob or (for one reason or another) wants to impress/epatate the auditors
3. an extremely polite expression used with a subtle touch of irony towards the addressee.

Excluding the first variant as quite impossible (although not necessarily so), we are left with the following alternatives:

1. dj was being subtlely ironic towards you, therefore the answer to your question should be yes, but this implies quite a high degree of intelligence. care inteligentza (sorry, dj) has yet to be proved existent.

2. he's being extremely kind on the outside, but deep down inside he's boiling with useless rage and would jump to your throat and rip your heart out at the first opportunity; which also implies some strength of character and other such imposing traits that have yet to be showed.

3. he wants to epatate with his knowledge, especially after my earlier explanation proving him right has had the "impí£unare" effect on him, in which case i would advise him "don't get cocky, or you'll get stewed"

4. it's just damn luck that he got it right.

so, which one (or which combination) do you think most appropriate to the specimen under discussion here?

1/ eventually = in fine, in cele din urma ,finalmente(sac) ,in ultima instanta , posibil and eventual. (as per english-romanian dictionary 1985 ,editura stiintifica, coordonator prof. univ.dr mihail bogdan.)

fyg , eventually is often used in the commercial english as "eventual" and "posibil" and unfo i'm stuck with it.

2/ in my humble opinion "ever so kindly" is(was) used only at the beggining of a sentence t/4 our friend should have written :

...by the ever so kindly two distinguished fanclub.ro members who pointed out my mistakes.

and not between "who" and "pointed". to simplify i suggested as per above.

3/ i bet on 3)

b. what do you mean by "commercial english"? i've only heard Romanians using "eventually" with the meaning of "eventual", the same as i always hear the english say "actuellement" with the meaning of "actually", when it really means "now, at present". (if i'm not mistaken they are called "faux amis")

b. "my ever so courteous friend, it is so nice to see you!"
c. "Mirei ever so kindly pointed out that eyeu' s humble opinion was nou so humble after all, but neither was it without flaw" (contrasac!)
d. as for the "the ever so kindly two distinguished members", it is correct as well, but it slightly changes the meaning of the phrase:

#the ever so kindly members pointed out --> the members are always kind, so now (like always) they pointed out what they did. (i have my doubt if you use ever so kind or ever so kindly in this case, as ever so kindly has the role of an adverb, and therefore would be wrongly used, but "the ever so kind two members" sounds weird...just like you don't say my best two friends, , but rather my two best friends, i would rather use "the two ever so kind/ly members, for the two members that are always kind....btw, who are they?

I already know the purpose of his attemps to find flaws in my writings. I can tell you this much: he is frantically trying to embarass me or at least attempting to make me look bad in front of others. I have yet to comprehend the his reason(s) but I'm sure it should become clearer in the near future.

I do not remember stating that I have forgotten Romanian. It's just that you cannot expect me to have the same vocabulary as a 21 year old Romanian person who lived in Romania their entire life. You must remember that after I left the country (Romania that is) I had the vocabulary of an eleven year old kid and that the only way to expand that vocabulary was to speak to my parents or to the few Romanian people I knew here. I believe that if you were in the same position as I, you would most certainly concur with what I just wrote. And another thing, why would one measure another person's writing skills and/or ability on an online forum? Why not allow me to send you one of my essays if you enjoy being so critical of other's way of expressing themselves? I'm sure you're a really good guy, I just don't understand why you are attacking me for no reason...well the only reason that I can think of is that I am "pro OM" and you are ( I think) "against OM".
